A Twenty-First Century Pandemic in Indian Country: The Resilience of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Against Covid 19
It is one of the many missions of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Historic and Cultural Preservation Department to preserve the Nation's intangible cultural heritage by encouraging the transition of Mvskoke knowledge and skills from one generation to the next. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Oral History Program aims to capture and retain Mvskoke stories, and the tribal knowledge found within these stories, as shared through Mvskoke oral traditions and oral histories. Through oral history methodology, the voices of Mvskoke people will be preserved and heard in perpetuity. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation oral history collection will provide a vital historical research tool to current and future generations of Mvskoke and others who wish to learn about the Mvskoke from a primary source of knowledge.
The oral histories gathered for this project provide a critical record of how twenty-first-century Mvskoke people accomplish their acts of resilience and survival against the Covid-19 pandemic that began in early 2020. The forty (40) interviews presented give insight into how the virus has impacted the lives and tribal communities of Mvskoke people, as well as the numerous ways in which the people of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation have responded to the pandemic. These interviews have been indexed through the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky. For fully indexed versions of these interviews, please visit: A Twenty-First Century Pandemic in Indian Country: The Resilience of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Against Covid 19.
